Water Emergency Training

This training program is designed to provide skills and confidence needed to protect the employee during a water involved emergency. The class focuses on skills for evaluating water hazards, the hazard of drowning, water rescue tools and their uses, water entry and self rescue and self control in an emergency. Upon successful completion the employee should be able to address the response needed when a water emergency occurs. Course content is based on hazard identification conducted on actual work sites, review of past fatal grams/facts as posted by OSHA/ MSHA, and selected fire rescue publications in water and swift water rescue tactics.

The program instructors train for a variety of industries and also municipal law enforcement. All are master divers with many years of experience between them. The instructor team challenges the individuals to go beyond where they feel comfortable while in the water. Participant safety is also an ongoing concern and one instructor is always observing the class from the pool side in order to protect the trainees. One shore based instructor makes up the group and ensures student safety if a water concern arises.

General Class information:
This eight (8) hour class utilizes classroom/outdoor/pool activity with Power Point/lecture, hands on based instruction and in water instruction. Class size is limited to twelve (12) attendees with three instructors and one support person. Attendees should have at least minimal swimming skills, advanced swimming skills are not required.

This training program is for employees that will act as operators, spotter and supervisors in work areas that are adjacent to a body of water with a depth of five feet or more.
